Confirmation is third of the three Sacraments of Initiation. This Sacrament is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. In receiving this Sacrament, the baptized person is more perfectly bound to the Church and is enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. He or she becomes a true witness of Christ and is more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
Usually it is the Bishop who confers the Sacrament of Confirmation during which the candidates are bestowed with the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, knowledge, reverence and awe! It formalises that the Holy Spirit will be the candidates’ guide and helper throughout their Christian life.
