RCIA - The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

In the Catholic Tradition most people are baptized into the Catholic Church as infants. However, for some people, Baptism or Reception into the Church may come later in life.

Most Christian Churches baptise their members by pouring the water over the head or by immersion whilst the Trinitarian Formula is said by the minister: “I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. Those people who have received this Christian Baptism ARE NOT baptized again! Such Christians wishing to become Catholic are received formally into the Catholic Church. Only unbaptised persons can be baptised because in the Creed we pray: “We believe in one Baptism ...”

If you wish to become a Catholic as an adult, then you are most welcome to join our annual R.C.I.A. Programme [Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults]. The programme usually commences in late August. It concludes at the Easter ceremonies approximately six months later. Parish members make up a team who are companions to the candidates. At the Easter Ceremony when the Rite of Baptism and the Rite of Reception occur, the RCIA Team and the entire parish give God praise that new members have come into the Church.

Please note: If you, your spouse and/or de facto have been previously divorced, you need to contact the Tribunal Office on 4222 2409 prior to your enrolling in the RCIA Program.

If you wish to proceed with inquiry, please complete the form below.
